Chuck Taylors

Chucks.
That simple moniker still resonates heavily throughout the vast spectrum of street wear and pop culture.  Whether you’re style is hip-hop or punk rock laden, it doesn’t really matter – you’ve worn these shoes or know someone who has.  Sneaker heads and occasional admirers alike know what the deal is when it comes to dressing your feet in this delectable treat.
Coming in a boundless array of colorways and material combinations with the low-top, double-layered black and white canvas being the most popular, Chucks are shoes that you can essentially wear with anything from a fresh tee and jeans to a blazer and slacks.  Celebrities, singers, rock stars, athletes, you and me alike have all had a pair of these shoes at one point or another.  Although its trend power is not near what it used to be with so many other ostentatious kicks being out on the market, the Chuck Taylor All Star will always stand tall, near the top, as the man behind the shoe did during his life.

Nike Air Max 95

Yes fellas!

Nike Air Max 95

One of the best running shoes of all time, this particular style was my favorite and is possibly my most coveted sneaker ever! I love the gray degrade siding that runs into neon green.

COMFORT AND ICONIC APPEAL
The Nike Air Max 95 Men's Shoe boasts the same iconic style and outstanding cushioning that made the original a hit with runners when it debuted in 1995. The mesh upper for breathability, Innovative lacing system for a customized fit and secure lockdown seem to be the major benefits of the sneaker.
Max Air units in the heel and forefoot for maximum impact protection
Nike's revolutionary AirSole unit made its way into Nike footwear in the late '70s. In 1987 the Nike Air 160 Max 1 debuted with visible air in its heel allowing fans more than just the feel of AirSole comfort suddenly they could see it, Since then next generation Nike Air Max shoes have become a hit with 160 athletes and collectors by offering striking color combinations and reliable lightweight cushioning.

Adidas Stan Smith

Adidas Stan Smith

Named after the famous tennis player, the Stan Smith was introduced in 1973. Like the Converse All-Star, this is one of the most iconic and copied sneakers of all time. Every 'sneakerhead' should have a pair in their collection.
Originally created in 1973 for tennis star Stan Smith, the adidas Stan Smith shoes have dominated the test of time. Smooth full grain leather, perforated 3-Stripes and tonal rubber out sole are featured on this iconic low top sneaker. More clean and sleek than ever before, the adidas Stan Smith offers simplicity that can’t be replicated.
Well designed and minimal branding. About the quality you should expect. Who needs the high end/high price version when you can have the real deal? Stan Smith  goes for about TT$800 or US$80 - $100. shopadidas.com.

If I could make one change, it would be a suede heel tab as opposed to leather. That's it.

Nike, Inc. is an American multinational corporation that is engaged in the design, development, manufacturing and worldwide marketing and selling of footwear, apparel, equipment, accessories and services. The company is headquartered near Beaverton, Oregon, in the Portland metropolitan area. It is one of the world's largest suppliers of athletic shoes and apparel and a major manufacturer of sports equipment, with revenue in excess of US$24.1 billion in its fiscal year 2012 (ending May 31, 2012). As of 2012, it employed more than 44,000 people worldwide. In 2014 the brand alone was valued at $19 billion, making it the most valuable brand among sports businesses.

The company was founded on January 25, 1964, as Blue Ribbon Sports, by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, and officially became Nike, Inc. on May 30, 1971. The company initially operated as a distributor for Japanese shoe maker Onitsuka Tiger (now ASICS), making most sales at track meets out of Knight's automobile. The company takes its name from Nike the Greek winged goddess of victory. Nike markets its products under its own brand, as well as Nike Golf, Nike Pro, Nike+, Air Jordan, Air Force 1, Nike Dunk, Foamposite, Nike Skateboarding, and subsidiaries including Brand Jordan, Hurley International and Converse. Nike also owned Bauer Hockey (later renamed Nike Bauer) between 1995 and 2008, and previously owned Cole Haan and Umbro. In addition to manufacturing sportswear and equipment, the company operates retail stores under the Niketown name. Nike sponsors many high-profile athletes and sports teams around the world, with the highly recognized trademarks of "Just Do It" and the “Swoosh” logo.

In 1982, Nike aired its first national television ads, created by newly formed ad agency Wieden+Kennedy (W+K), during the broadcast of the New York Marathon. The Cannes Advertising Festival has named Nike its Advertiser of the Year in 1994 and 2003, making it the first company to receive that honor twice.

Nike also has earned the Emmy Award for best commercial twice since the award was first created in the 1990s. The first was for "The Morning After," a satirical look at what a runner might face on the morning of January 1, 2000 if every dire prediction about the Y2K problem came to fruition. The second was for a 2002 spot called "Move," which featured a series of famous and everyday athletes in a variety of athletic pursuits.

       Heelys

Still one of the most popular kids sneakers and of course the most dangerous this sneaker still ranks as one of the most popular and most fun to wear. It can double as both a shoe and roller skates with just the flick of a heel. Keep an eye on the kids while they wear this one!

These are guaranteed fun to look at for both children and parents alike. As soon as their little heels touch the ground the Puma sign lights up!!! It comes in both boys’ and girls’ colours to suit every occasion… From the mall to the field… Day or night!!!!

Old School sneakers that Trinidad & Tobago Loved

       Travel Fox

This was one of the most sought after sneakers in the mid 80’s and was also one of the more expensive brands. It was worn by savy street hustlers to much talked about Caribbean entertainers. They were just re-released 2 years ago from their Italian maker.

      Adidas Superstar

Back in 1986 the most iconic group in rap history sang a song called “My Adidas”… their name was Run-D.M.C. and they were signed by Adidas for US$1 million dollars. After that everyone had to have a pair! Back in those days we also called them “Shell Top” or “Cork Mouth” Adidas. They came in various colours but the most popular colour was by far the white with black stripes! I’ve got to re-purchase one of those!

                  Puma Suede
This sneaker was and still is a cult classic dating back to the 1970’s. The colour combinations were fresh and they seemed limitless, but the use of the thick laces made people buy them like there was no tomorrow. My favourite colour combinations are the pink and violet and the blue and black.

        LA Gear
This sneaker was hugely popular amongst the girls… That was until the LA Light Gear came on the market and then it was all over. People could not get enough and it wasn’t uncommon to see heel lights flashing in the nighttime around T&T! Anyone got the link for those? Please link me up! P.S. Michael Jackson designed his own pair!

       Chuck Taylor Converse
These are the classics of all classics!!! Every single sneakerhead must own a pair of ‘Chuck Taylors’ otherwise they don’t deserve to be called a sneakerhead. These sneaks paved the way for all sneaks! They’ve been around so long even my Mom and Dad owned a pair!

Tips on How to take care of your favourite Sneakers

1.       Use a Toothbrush

This instrument is essential in the cleaning or restoration of your sneakers as this would ensure that the material is treated gently and there is detail especially when cleaning the stitching.

2.       Spray on Protectants

To extend the life of your sneakers you can use a good Suede Protector or Spray-on Water repellant which can last up to 8-10 months and can be found in various brand names like Aldo, New Balance, etc.

3.       Wet Wipes

It may sound a bit foolish but having a pack of wet wipes handy is no joke in the sneaker world. These can work instantly if something drops on your prized possession or if someone happens to step on them. It can instantly be wiped of so as not to let the dirt set into a permanent stain.

4.       Dryer Sheets

After a while some sneakers may start to ‘kick’, so once you take them off you can leave dryer sheets inside them overnight so the good smell will oust the bad one.

5.       Keep your laces tight

If laces are dirty then the whole sneaker looks dirty so to keep those white laces looking fresh and clean you can soak them in warm water laced with bleach and swirl them around don’t pull or wring them as this may cause the laces to stretch or get bent out of shape.
